They can't do faces properly anymore, especially on female models. On top of this, the sculpts themselves are utterly stupid. The kit does not give you the spare parts needed to change these roles, meaning you either have to field a weird mixed unit that's no good at either role, or you need to buy at least three boxes to get two minimum sized squads for each dedicated role. In the new box, you get a squad leader, a heavy weapon Ork, four Shoota Boys for range, and four Slugga Boys for close combat. The old box gave you 10 Orks that could be either ranged or melee, and you could buy your squad leaders and Heavy weapons separately.
Ork Boys can be taken in squads of 10-30, and you typically want to have them all equipped for a specific role - ranged or melee combat.
